Wheelchair: Christ and St. Stephen's has a limited degree of wheelchair accessibility that makes it manageable for some. There is public transportation and curbside parking, if you can find a spot, and a parking garage a block away. The ramp to the entrance is longer and steeper than standard (1 in 9.5, rather than 1 in 12) and has no handrails or level landings. The entrance doors are narrow and too close together in succession. There are fixed pews and the only places to position a wheelchair are in the very front, way at the back, or in an aisle. The communion rail and a side chapel are accessible, but there are no accessible restrooms. In spite of the difficulties, people in wheelchairs have attended. The parish wants to become more welcoming, so watch for changes. Large-print hymnals, prayer books and service folders are available.
Hard of Hearing: Christ & St. Stephen’s provides service folders; an ALS (Assistive Listening System) is in the planning stages and will be reported on here when it is up and running. You may want to call the parish office for information on the progress.
